Cathy Portas
My love of art began when as a young teenager a neighbouring artist, Alice Collins, started an art class in her Blue Mountains studio. She encouraged me to use all sorts of mediums, ink wash, oils, even sculpture which made me feel open to new ideas and not restricted by rules. I gained confidence from winning several prizes when Alice submitted my work to art competitions - at age 14 winning a prize in the National Art Awards, a treasured book of Modern Art. My passion is shared between paintings, some where colour flows together to suggest dreamy landscapes, pen and ink line and design, mosaics, photography and ceramics. This is where I can utilize either the graphic line designs in black & white or designs of pure colour as portrayed in my work currently in the gallery. |
