I create contemporary impressionist oil paintings of marine wildlife. For the past few years the subject has captivated me: the elegance and beauty of these animals, as well as studying how light interacts with water both above and below the surface. Through completing a series of large paintings on sea turtle conservation, I have come to learn that our relationship with them is not neutral and that they have the ability to evoke great emotions in our deepest being. My underwater subjects primarily began with the various sea turtle species, and have expanded to include a range of other marine lifeforms. By now have had solo exhibitions, sold work through galleries, exhibited at shows, enjoyed successful commissions, won some awards, and featured in publications. It is, however, for me, always about paying acute attention to what it is that I am painting, and how best can I interpret a sensation of light. Website: Blue Thumb - Nick Human |
